First Aid at Work (3-Day HSE Approved)
Since October 2009, the HSE has directed that all First Aid at Work courses must be 3 days long. A new one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course has been introduced to cater for organisations with a lower risk environment.
Guidelines on the most appropriate course for your business can be found on the HSE’s website (http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg214.pdf)
Only HSE approved training organisations are permitted to run either of these courses, which serves to reassure you that the standard of training is adequate. At Ashgrove Health, we pride ourselves on the very high standard of our instructors.

The course content is dictated by the HSE. Our courses exceed this minimum and include:
- Legal requirements and roles of the first aider
- Basic life support, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Treatment of wounds and bleeding
- Dealing with common emergencies, such as heart attack and seizures
- Treating sprains, strains and fractures
- Recognition and treatment of airway problems, including asthma, choking and anaphylaxis
- Introductory training with the automated defibrillator (AED)
All our first aid courses are taught by experienced, top class instructors who rely on high quality training aids, realistic casualty simulation and scenarios drawn from real-life, making the experience memorable and fun. We also provide monthly updates for all our students to help keep the first aid training fresh in their minds. A comprehensive handbook is also available.
The First Aid at Work qualification lasts for 3 years, after which time a 2-day refresher course is required to remain in date. The HSE also recommends that first aiders undergo an annual 1-day course to maintain their skill level.
