HSE Requirements

The HSE requires all businesses, no matter how small, to make provision for first aid in the workplace. The minimum requirement is one Appointed Person, but the actual need  can only be determined through a thorough risk assessment. Detailed guidance can be found on the HSE website at http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/ or you can call Ashgrove First Aid for free expert advice.

The HSE dictates that a First Aid at Work course must be 3 days long, but they strongly suggest that an annual one-day refresher course is conducted. Requalification is required after 3 years.

For businesses with a lower risk environment, there is now a one-day, HSE recognised Emergency First Aid at Work course.

The table below is taken from the HSE website and gives basic guidance on First Aid requirements. Be aware, however, that the minimum numbers must be on-site at all times and you may need additional trained staff to cater for shift work or holiday periods. Also, where a workplace covers a large area, it may be necessary to have trained personnel in several locations.

Whatever your needs, Ashgrove First Aid can provide the right course for you. For more information on any of our courses, please contact us by e-mail or telephone 01933 469043.
